{"id":2104,"date":"2025-11-01T11:48:36","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T15:48:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.securiglobe.com\/?p=2104"},"modified":"2025-11-10T09:13:24","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T14:13:24","slug":"new-us-registration-requirements-for-canadians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.securiglobe.com\/en\/new-us-registration-requirements-for-canadians\/","title":{"rendered":"New U.S. Registration Requirements for Canadians Traveling to the United States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starting <strong>April 11, 2025<\/strong>, all Canadians staying <strong>30 days or more<\/strong> in the United States will be required to register with U.S. authorities, in accordance with the presidential decree <em>\u201cProtecting the American People from Invasion\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What Travelers Should Know<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Travelers arriving <strong>by air or sea<\/strong> automatically receive an electronic I-94 upon arrival.<\/li>\n<li>Travelers entering <strong>by land<\/strong> must <strong>apply in advance<\/strong> to obtain the I-94 form, which is <strong>not issued automatically<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>For Your Next Stay of More Than 30 Days by Land<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2776<\/strong><strong> Before Departure: I-94 Application (Recommended)<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can apply online for your I-94 within <strong>7 days prior<\/strong> to your border crossing: <a href=\"https:\/\/i94.cbp.dhs.gov\/home\"><strong>I-94 \u2013 Apply Now<\/strong><\/a>. A <strong>US $30 fee<\/strong> applies for each application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u2777<\/strong><strong> At the Border<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Whether or not you have completed the form beforehand, you can <strong>ask the border officer<\/strong> to issue your I-94 upon arrival.<\/li>\n<li>Please note that, based on recent reports, officers may, <strong>at their discretion<\/strong>, perform additional checks such as <strong>fingerprinting*<\/strong> <em>and photo capture<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em>*Canadians are officially exempt from these procedures, but some travelers have reported that officers still request them. It may be difficult to refuse cooperation at the border, so we recommend remaining polite and honest with officers.<\/em> <em>Anyone concerned about this procedure should request that their U.S. entry application be withdrawn and ask for permission to return to their home or original departure point.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2778<\/strong><strong> After Entering the United States<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check that your electronic I-94 has been issued through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/about\/mobile-apps-directory\/cbplink\"><strong>CBP One\u2122<\/strong><\/a> or visit: <a href=\"https:\/\/i94.cbp.dhs.gov\/home\"><strong>Get Most Recent I-94<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Print it \u2014 you have <strong>30 days<\/strong> to do so.<\/li>\n<li>Keep <strong>multiple copies<\/strong> for each family member (on you, at home, and in your vehicle).<\/li>\n<li>If no I-94 has been issued: you must then complete your registration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/forms\/all-forms\/g-325r\"><strong>Form G-325R<\/strong> through <strong>USCIS<\/strong><\/a>.<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Practical Tips<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2192 To comply with the new rules, it is <strong>highly recommended to apply for your I-94 before entering the U.S.<\/strong>, to avoid having to complete the <strong>G-325R<\/strong>, which is longer, more intrusive, and more complex.<\/p>\n<p>\u2192 Every foreign national must be able to <strong>always present proof of registration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2192 If you <strong>leave the U.S.<\/strong>, even for a few hours, you will need to <strong>repeat the registration process (I-94 or G-325R)<\/strong> upon re-entering by land if you plan to stay 30 days or more.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who Must Register?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Travelers aged <strong>14 and over <\/strong>staying more than 30 days.<\/li>\n<li>Parents or guardians of <strong>children under 14<\/strong> who are not registered<\/li>\n<li>Anyone entering <strong>by land<\/strong> who does not automatically receive an I-94.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Consequences of Failing to Register<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Denial of entry<\/strong> to the U.S. on a future trip.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shortened authorized stay.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Severe penalties<\/strong>, including fines, imprisonment, or <strong>ban on entry<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>These new requirements represent a <strong>major change<\/strong> for all Canadians aged 14 and over planning an extended stay in the United States.
